Once a tiny village lost in the hills, in 1917 a religious event changed its history, when three little shepherds witnessed successive apparitions of the Virgin Mary, ended with a miracle reported by thousands of local people. Its development boomed and it is now an important center for the Catholic faith, being visited by millions of pilgrims and tourist from all around the world.
Here, you will admire the Sanctuary’s grandiosity, spirituality and symbolism. Built in neo-classical style with a tall central tower, it is a wonderful spot not only for religious people, but also for everyone who is looking for a peaceful place to relax, meditate or rest. And it is surrounded by holy places that you can’t miss for historic purposes.
Then our trip will proceed to Coimbra. Being the birthplace of six kings and the seat of Portugal’s first university, Coimbra is one of the most celebrated cities in the Southern Europe. Here we will visit the Monastery of Santa Clara, where the tomb of the patron of the city lies, the ancient Cathedral and the Coimbra’s University, one of the oldest in Europe, classified a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
